IRC 2008 Laureates honoured

irc2008_laureates2.jpgRadio France honoured the two composers whose works had been selected at this year's International Rostrum of Composers at a ceremony held on July 24 in presence of IMC Executive Officer Silja Fischer. Misato Mochizuki's L'heure bleue and Florent Motsch's Mémoire du vent had been selected in the "general" and "young composers" categories respectively. Both works had been produced by Radio France and presented at the 2008 IRC by the head of the Bureau of musical creation, René Bosc.

Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity

newslogo.jpgThe First Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions was held in Paris from June 24 to 27, 2008. UNESCO has released a document presenting the decisions made during the meeting. It is available in English and French.

Exchange session between civil society and States Parties to UNESCO Convention

newslogo.jpgOn June 23, 2008, discussions were held between civil society and States Parties to the UNESCO Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The event preceded the first extraordinary session of the Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity, which began the next day (June 24) and continued until June 27.

International Rostrum of Composers 2008

irc.jpgIMC announces the results of the 2008 International Rostrum of Composers held in Dublin, June 9-13, organised in cooperation with RTE lyric fm.

Paris, June 18, 2008. The 55th International Rostrum of Composers (IRC) took place at RTE studios in Dublin, June 9 - 13 2008, organised by the International Music Council and hosted by RTE lyric fm.
The 2008 Rostrum gathered representatives from 29 national radio networks from four continents, which presented 51 works composed within the five years preceding the Rostrum. CBC Executive Producer David Jaeger (Canada) chaired the sessions. After the listening sessions, the assembly of delegates selected and recommended the most important works in two categories: general and "young composers". These and other works will be presented in concerts and broadcast after the Rostrum by the participating and other interested radio stations.
