NEWS BULLETIN
Issue N°31
April 2005
We are happy to present the first edition of our news bulletin for 2005. This year is of particular importance to our organisation since the General Assembly coincides with the launch of the Music World Forum in Los Angeles (USA) from 1 – 4 October, 2005. We are looking forward to seeing you at this international gathering that will explore the theme “Music and Society in the 21st Century” from a variety of perspectives.
From now on, every news bulletin will feature a section that highlights a different country. The honor of being the first country to be presented under this heading goes to Australia. Offering more than a simple overview, we are inviting you to an exciting journey across different cultures and musics of that vast country and continent. Should you wish to share information on your country’s musical life with our readers in one of our next editions, we’d be happy to hear from you.

Funding opportunities
While IMC is not itself a funding body, it occasionally seeks funds on behalf of its members and supports members' activities in a number of ways. IMC is particularly sensitive to regional development needs. Additionally, IMC regularly outsources the implementation of initiatives or commissioned research to members and partners according to their field of competence.

RESONANCE
History
The idea of RESONANCE was launched in 1988 by then Secretary General Guy Huot as a bi-monthly newsletter intended for IMC members and partners to share information on IMC activities and members's projects. The title "RESONANCE" was the result of a name-finding competition; it had been prposed by Vassili Zagorski, composer, then Secretary of the USSR Union of Composers and member of the IMC Executive Committee.
During the first years of its existence, RESONANCE was distributed in photocopy format in a folder whose design was offered by the French label Auvidis, IMC's partner in the release of the UNESCO Collection of Traditional Music Recordings.
In 1996, Richard Letts, then member of the IMC Executive Committee, took over the editorial responsibility for RESONANCE with a view to transforming it into a genuine music periodical. The graphic design was again offered by Auvidis while the printing was done in several places around the world. Since the numbering was continued, the first issue in the new format was RESONANCE N° 21.
The structure of the periodical developed further and when the IMC Secretariat was again entrusted with the editorship of RESONANCE in 2000, it opted for a two-part magazine, the first presenting a thematic dossier and the second being dedicated to IMC: reports on projects, news from members, calendar of events etc.
Since 2000, RESONANCE was published twice a year with the financial support of UNESCO and the generous sponsorship of Flevodruk (Netherlands). Due to budget constraints, the publication was discontinued in 2004.
Outreach
RESONANCE was distributed to IMC members and partners, UNESCO officials, Governments, organizations in the field of arts and culture from the private, public and NGO sector, media organizations, free-lance journalists, corporations, as well as to interested readers throughout the world.
IMC members could order copies in bulk for distribution within their network.
