AEC News May 2023

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I am delighted to present to you the AEC Newsletter for May 2023.
It has been a busy time for the association, with advocacy taking a prominent place in our most recent work. Alongside ELIA, Culture Action Europe and the EMC, AEC issued a Joint Response to the Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action Calls 2023. The Call's text reinterpreted the STEAM (Science Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) concept almost exclusively as a means to bridge the gender gap within the STEM fields. The group considered that this framing undermined the original raison d’être of STEAM — its inherent potential to promote creativity and innovation - and made the case in the strongest terms.

The European Performing Arts Student Association (EPASA) held its first online conference last month, a landmark occasion. I am very grateful to the driving forces behind the formation of EPASA, which is linked to our shared ambition to embed the student voice into AEC and our member institutions. I am sure this association will thrive, and it will continue to have AEC's fullest support.
Many thanks to those of you who have filled in the recent ARTEMIS & EPASA survey on Digitisation, AEC Goes Green, Lifelong Learning and IRC surveys. It is important to us to get the sectoral perspective, and I would encourage you to respond whenever possible to AEC surveys. Your input adds hugely to our understanding of these ever evolving and important areas of research and development.
Best wishes,
Deborah Kelleher (She/her)
President, European Association of Conservatoires (AEC)
