DECOLONIZING MUSIC, THE MUSIC FORUM OF THE AMERICAS
San Juan, Puerto Rico October 8-10, 2016
Dear Musicians, Music Educators, and Music Students, on behalf of the Music Council of the Three Americas, COMTA, a regional council of the International Music Council, IMC, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend our regional conference Decolonizing Music, a musical gathering of the Americas to be held October 8-10, 2016 at the beautiful new facilities of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music in the capital city of San Juan. The Forum is intended to be a meeting place for music institutions and organizations, musicians and music educators from the vast region of the Americas. Conferences and music presentations will include topics such as: Projects related to the rescuing of cultural patrimony: Music and instruments of the Three Americas; Musical creation with indigenous instruments; To be an artist in America, rooted in our own geoculture; Science, Art and Tradition: an integral view of knowledge; Music and Spirituality in the traditions of the Americas; Contemporary music of the Americas; Music and Social Responsibility; Creative industries as a vehicle for social transformation; Creative industries and the intangible patrimony; Music and Human Rights.
A call for proposals for conferences and presentations is now open. Guidelines can be found here. The deadline for receiving proposals is July 15, 2016.
The Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, the conference venue, is beautifully located at ocean front in the center of the Santurce arts district, where you can find the largest collection of street art in the Island. It is also at walking distance to excellent and affordable hotel accommodations and fine dining, and only a short bus or cab ride from museums, the Performing Arts Center home of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, theaters, night life, magnificent beaches, the historical city of Old San Juan and many other tourist attractions. For those who wish to prolong their stay and explore the Island, Puerto Rico offers a wide variety of fun alternatives. US citizens and legal residents do not need a special visa to enter Puerto Rican territory as it is a Commonwealth of the United States. Currency in Puerto Rico is the US dollar and although Spanish is the official language English is spoken at most places. Registration fee is $290.00 US dollars for the full conference. Simultaneous translation of the conferences will be available at a small fee.

DESCOLONIZANDO LA MÚSICA ENCUENTRO MUSICAL DE LAS AMÉRICAS
San Juan, Puerto Rico 8-10 de octubre de 2016
El Consejo de la Música de las Tres Américas, COMTA, consejo regional del Consejo International de la Música (CIM), tiene el placer de invitarles a nuestro Encuentro Regional 2016 que se llevará a cabo del 8 al 10 de octubre de 2016 en las hermosas instalaciones del Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico localizadas en San Juan, ciudad capital de la Isla. Este importante evento tiene como propósito congregar a instituciones y organizaciones musicales, músicos y educadores musicales de los países de Norte, Centro y Sur América para poner de manifiesto ante el mundo la riqueza musical que habita en la vasta región de las Américas. Descolonizando la Música presentará conferencias bajo los siguientes ejes temáticos: Proyectos de recuperación del patrimonio cultural: músicas e instrumentos de las Tres Américas; Creación musical con instrumentos autóctonos; Ser artista en América: un “ser y un hacer” enraizados en la propia geocultura; La Ciencia, el Arte, y la Tradición: visión integral del conocimiento; Música y Espiritualidad en las Tradiciones de las Américas; La música contemporánea de vanguardia de las Américas; Música y Responsabilidad Social ;Las Industrias creativas como medio de transformación social; Las Industrias creativas y el patrimonio inmaterial; La Música y derechos humanos.

INFORMACIÓN DE REGISTRO
La fecha límite para solicitar es el 15 de julio de 2016.
El Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, lugar donde se llevará a cabo el evento, está céntricamente localizado en el corazón de la ciudad de San Juan con hermosas vistas al océano Atlántico. El sector de Santurce, donde habita, ha sido reconocido como eje central del también llamado Distrito de las Artes. En la zona no sólo encontrarán la colección de arte urbano más amplia de la isla sino también una gran concentración de organizaciones artístico-culturales, museos, galerías de arte, teatros, el Centro de Bellas Artes y la Sala Sinfónica hogar de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico, excelentes hoteles, restaurantes, vida nocturna, playas, la ciudad histórica de San Juan y muchas otras atracciones turísticas. Para los que deseen explorar la Isla, Puerto Rico ofrece una gran cantidad de alternativas para todos los gustos y presupuestos. En el portal de la Compañía de Turismo de PR puede encontrar más información sobre la Isla bajo la siguiente dirección: www.puertoricotourism.pr.gov Puerto Rico es un Estado Libre Asociado, por lo que ciudadanos y residentes permanentes de los Estados Unidos no necesitan visa para entrar a Puerto Rico. Ciudadanos de otros países deberán solicitar su visa a la embajada de los Estados Unidos en su país de origen. El idioma oficial es el español, aunque también se habla y entiende el inglés en la mayoría de los lugares. La moneda oficial es el dólar.
