IMC Executive Board elects Vice Presidents

At its first meeting held at the IMC Secretariat in Paris, the IMC Executive Board decided to elect Sheila Woodward (USA) and Ye Xiaogang (China) as Vice-Presidents. They will assist IMC president Emily Achieng’ Akuno and IMC Executive Vice-President Alfons Karabuda in strengthening the IMC global network and improving its actions for the Five Music Rights.

WoodwardS 08c 1080X1440 pixels 206kb 0Dr. Sheila Woodward is Professor of Music and Director of Music Education at Eastern Washington University, USA. She is Past President of the International Society for Music Education. She is a native of South Africa and earned her Ph.D. from the University of Cape Town and a Performer’s Licentiate in Organ from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. She previously taught at the University of Southern California, the University of South Florida, and the University of the Western Cape.
Dr. Woodward has previously served on numerous professional boards; including two terms on the ISME Board of Directors (2004-2008), three terms on the ISME Early Childhood Music Education Commission (1992-1998, two as Chair), two terms on the NAfME Council for IN-ovations (2012-2014, one as Chair), and two terms on the NAfME Executive Board of the Society for General Music (2002-2006).


YeComposer Ye Xiaogang is the President of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, the IMC National Music Council in China. As one of the most distinguished Chinese composers with an established international reputation, Maestro Ye Xiaogang has long been active on the world stage and made a considerable contribution to Chinese music development and the international exchange of musical culture. As a leading Chinese composer, Ye has created well-received works in diverse genres of symphony, chamber music, ballet, opera and film music. These works, such as The Last Paradise, The Winter, Horizon, The Song of the Earth, The Great Wall Symphony, My Far Away Nanjing, Nine Horses, have been staged at numerous recital concerts in China and around the world.

During the same session, the Executive Board decided to coopt Roula Abou Baker (Lebanon), Managing Director of the Fayha Choir and Chile-born María Clara Vargas Cullell, Dean of the Fine Arts Faculty at the Universidad de Costa Rica, who complete the competencies, sectors and regions represented in the Board.
