Laureates of the Music Rights Awards 2017
The 5th edition of the Music Rights Awards took place in Pafos, Cyprus on June 10th 2017 in the framework of the 7th European Forum on Music.
Master of ceremony were IMC president Paul Dujardin and IMC Five Music Rights Champion Ramy Essam.
Music Rights Awards are given to three categories:
- Projects related to the first three rights
- Project related to the 4th and/or the 5th right
- Emerging projects
In the first category, the award was given to
Teaching Music in Pakistan
An inspiring programme, run by the Pakistan Special Education Centers, that provides access to music education for children with special education needs and disabilities, thereby transforming their lives through music. The programme was nominated by ISME – The International Society for Music Education.
In the second category, the laureate was
Festival sur le Niger
An inspiring initiative managed by the Festival sur le Niger Foundation that contributes to the development of cultural industries in Mali and enhances the national cultural and artistic heritage, using the promotion of culture as a tool for peace and stability. Nomination was made by the National Music Council of Cameroon.
In the emerging projects category, the award was given to
Give Music a Future
An imaginative programme, designed and nominated by the EMCY – European Union of Music Competitions for Youth that develops new strategies for audience development at youth music competitions and boosts the career of young emerging European musicians.
Launched in 2009, the IMC Music Rights Awards are given to programs or projects that support in an exemplary way one or more of the Five Music Rights enunciated by the IMC.
The IMC Five Music Rights Award is a symbolic and active recognition of the effort that is brought by each actor involved in the nominated programmes. With this Award, IMC encourages its members and other organisations to give active support to the Five Music Rights
