Music and Social Change – 4th IMC World Forum on Music

The International Music Council (IMC) invites you to attend its 4th IMC World Forum on Music and 34th General Assembly to be held in Tallinn, Estonia, September 26 - October 1, 2011 under the title “Music and Social Change”. It will be co-organised by the European and Estonian Music Councils in collaboration with the Estonian Academy for Music and Theatre.

Results of 10th African Music Rostrum announced

The 10th African Music Rostrum was organised after an interruption of 10 years. The Rostrum was organized in the framework of the festival "Le Kolatier", held in Douala, Cameroon from 17 to 20 November 2010.

The jury of the competition has proclaimed the conclusions of its deliberations Saturday November 20, 2010 on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the Kolatier.

The TMAF program intends to help to promote the values of the African continent's music via the radio.

The jury considered 14 entries in 3 categories and selected the following compositions
 • Traditional music: “Julie” by Petit Genie (Benin)
• Experimental music: “Ougbe” by Fo Jean (Benin)
• Urban popular: “Tong Ning” by Cheuwwak Yamndeu Alain Barrière (Cameroun).

The Jury attributed a special prize of encouragement to Fe Mwen Reve by Nathalis Royce Mbumba (DR Congo).

UNESCO highlights IMC contribution to ratification of 2005 Convention

newslogo.jpgThe contribution of the IMC and its network to ensure a large ratification of the UNESCO Convention for the Promotion and Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions was highlighted in an information document distributed at the latest session of the Intergovernmental Committee, held in Paris, November 29 - December 2 2010.

Bureau exécutif du CIM pour la première fois en Afrique

newslogo.jpgLe Conseil International de la Musique (CIM) tiendra la prochaine réunion de son Bureau exécutif à Douala, du 14 au 15 novembre 2010, en marge de la cinquième édition du Kolatier 2010, le Marché des Musiques d’Afrique, prévu du 17 au 20 novembre 2010.
C’est une occasion exceptionnelle que le Conseil International de la Musique offre à l’Afrique pour des échanges fructueux. C’est en effet la toute première fois depuis sa création en 1949 que cette institution tient la réunion de son Bureau exécutif en terre africaine.

Access! successfully staged

The Working Group Youth of the European Music Council held a highly successful European Forum on Music entitled Access! in Turin, Italy from 15th-17th October 2010. The more than sixty participants from all corners of Europe, mostly in their twenties, agreed that this was an invaluable opportunity to network and learn from one another.

Documentary released to celebrate IMC Member of Honour Prof. Tran Van Khe

khe.jpgPhuong Nam Film will issue a documentary entitled “Tran Van Khe – Inspirer” on July 24 to celebrate Professor Tran Van Khe’s 90th birthday.

On this occasion, the famous professor’s memoirs will also be re-published.

The documentary is directed by Pham Hoang Nam, with script written by Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc. It is the portrait of Prof. Khe, a talented music researcher, performer and presenter.

Contemporary music on the radio to be highlighted in Lisbon


Paris, May 27, 2010 -
 From May 31 to June 4, the International Music Council organises, in cooperation with Portuguese Radio, the 57th International Rostrum of Composers. The event will be hosted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.

The 2010 Rostrum will gather representatives from 34 national radio networks from four continents, which present some 70 works composed within the five years preceding the Rostrum. Finnish Radio Executive Producer Heikki Valsta will chair the sessions. After the listening sessions, the assembly of delegates will select and recommend the most important works in two categories: general and "young composers". These and other works will be presented in concerts and broadcast after the Rostrum by the participating and other interested radio stations. The results will be announced on June 4 at 15:00 at a press conference to held at the Gulbenkian Foundation.

Sustainable futures for music cultures project publishes first newsletter

'Sustainable futures for music cultures: Towards an ecology of musical diversity’ is a five year international research collaboration investigating ecosystems of nine music cultures, with the purpose of gaining understanding that will empower communities to forge musical futures on their own terms. The project, which is coordinated by the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane and where the International Music Council participates as industry partner, has recently its first newsletter published.

European Forum on Music

efm_recto.jpgThe first European Forum on Music took place from 15 – 18 April 2010 in Vienna's University of Music and Performing Arts. It was a huge success and the participants, coming from across the world, took many ideas and conclusions from the varied and interesting discussions that took place.
