Can the internet open up classical music to a wider audience?

In recent weeks, some of my long-held assumptions about classical music, education, and the intersection between the two have been seriously challenged – by "MOOCs", of all amazingly named things.

The Support Music Coalition, led by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the National Association for Music Merchants (NAMM), reacted quickly when the Lansing, Michigan School Board voted to cut music, art and physical education elementary teaching positions from the 2013–14 budget.
