MMAP - ONGOING ACTIONS

The MMAP Steering Committee has established a strategic action plan for the implementation of the programme; from which the following is a summary of the main issues:

IMPLEMENTATION

The action programme will be realised in three phases, as follows:

Phase 1:

Strengthen the awareness of issues related to musical diversity among all IMC members and their members, and support each other in aligning programmes and projects according to the principles of the MMAP.

Phase 2:

Influence and encourage musical entities outside the IMC (institutions, organisations, national and international music leaders) and other decision-makers (civil servants, ministers, advisers, elected representatives at the local, regional, national and international levels)

  • to adopt the principles of the MMAP
  • to formulate, promote, and implement cultural policies, educational policies, trade policies, employment policies, financial policies and media policies, according to the principles of the MMAP
  • to formulate and implement programmes and policies accordingly.

Phase 3:

Assess the effects of IMC based initiatives to sustain and enhance musical diversity: among IMC members, other musical entities, and decision-makers at the local, regional, national and international levels, to accept and adopt the principles of MMAP. The effects will appear in changes in policies, structures, and practices, and through the initiation of specific programmes and projects.

METHODS

The AIDA formula will be applied: Attention, Information, Decision, Action:

  • Information will be collected on:
    • existing situations regarding musical diversity
    • good local examples of inclusivity and support for all music
    • local challenges.
  • Information will be disseminated by means of conferences and discussions, publications, and this website.
  • Partnerships will be formed between IMC members, and between those members and others in order to provide guidance and/or direction in the implementation of programmes and projects.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIONS - PHASE 1

The following two objectives are intended to accomplish Phase 1:

  • Collect and consolidate data on musical diversity in relation to Music Education, Music Production and International Policy
  • Launch a communication campaign to disseminate information about the ManyMusics Action Programme.

The implementation of the objectives in Phase 1 is in progress, with chairs of each of the three programme areas. The results of these research projects will be presented at the IMC GA/conference in Montevideo October 2003. MMAP is an IMC membership action programme, the success depending on the strong participation of all members. Through a special call for presentations IMC members have been invited to share their experience, knowledge, projects and initiatives at the Montevideo Conference.

IMC members are also strongly invited to contribute to this web site with information on projects and documentation; to which links will be established.

OUTCOMES AND EVALUATION

For Phase 1, the expected outcome is an increase in the number of IMC members with policy statements, as well as programmes and projects supporting and representing the ManyMusics principles. This will be evaluated in mid 2004.
