Calypso as an Instrument of Social Justice
Published in 2007
In September 2003, the International Music Council has embarked upon a project to research and document calypso music, with a focus on Trinidad and Tobago. The publication will assess the social justice dimension of Calypso to explore the extent to which the lyrics and work of Calypso artist Dr. Francisco Slinger - known as Mighty Sparrow - have contributed both to the development of this musical genre and to the demand for fairness and the respect of cultural rights and human dignity. The publication is funded by the Ford Foundation and contains a set of commissioned essays that range from historical surveys and analysis of song texts to first-person accounts, along with a discography as well as conclusions of a roundtable that took place under the same title on June 30, 2004 in Sao Paulo, during the World Culture Forum.

Guide to Pan-African Cultural Markets, Professional Networks, and Resource Institutions
(on-line publication, 2003)
The Guide, partially funded by the African Marketplace Inc, UNESCO and Cultural Engineering LLC, consists of a brief description and contact information for thousands of Festivals, Cultural Markets, Professional Networks, and Research Resources all either part of the African Diaspora or demonstrating a strong emphasis on Pan-African Arts and Culture. The Guide covers fashion, literature, media, music and the performing arts, cultural tourism, visual arts and related multidisciplinary activities.
This Guide is hoped to be very useful to the professionals and institutions interested in African artistic and cultural expressions. It will help partnering organizations such as UNESCO provide Pan-African cultural entrepreneurs with an opportunity to have a powerful resource tool at their fingertips. The production of this Guide is a key step in the mapping of Pan-African cultural markets as it contents touches on Cultural Markets from across the globe. The Guide provides an opportunity for Pan-African cultural entrepreneurs to have greater exposure to and hopefully increased participation in Pan-African Cultural Markets outside of their respective regions. Building partnerships and networks developed between Pan-African cultural entrepreneurs from various regions is an important first step towards achieving an African global village.
